During the initial work-up stage of treatment, the strength and volume of allergy antigen injected wil-l be gradually increased.  During this phase, the injections can be done as often as every three days, but they need to be done no longer than every ten (10) days. !/ it goes beyond 10 days in between injections, the previous level will have to be repeated. In the work-up stage of treatment, it is very important for the patient to remain at the physician's office for twenty (20) minutes after receiving the injection.  This is done so that if the patient has any type of reaction, medical staff are available to either observe or to give any medical assistance that is needed. Some of the minor reactions to the antigen are:

Rash

Elevated temperature

Whelp at site of injection

On rare occasions, a serious reaction may occur.

Itching of Throat                                   Hives

Wheezing                                               Faintness

Intense sneezing or coughing              Shortness of Breath

If for some reason, the patient has left the clinic setting and they have a serious

reaction,, they should go to the nearest hospital emergency room immediately.

When the patient reaches a maintenance level (which is the maximum dosage tolerated), injections may be given as often as every three days, but no longer than every two weeks. The frequency in which a patient receives allergy injections is generally once or twice a week for two to three years.
